Fashion Rant...

Today I have a fashion rant. I don’t often like to discuss personal and what I consider PRIVATE , but something happened this weekend that just irked me. Yes…IRKED! I will warn you that this rant concerns something I would really rather not know about…other folks underpants. So, be warned, this may be O-ffensive to some.

Now, I realize I am not the youngest, hippest or trimmest belle at the ball, but folks…I am sick and tired of seeing other people’s undergarments hanging out of their clothes. I am not on a moral rant here (not that there aren't issues there, to be sure, but this is a major FASHION issue).  That goes for MEN and WOMEN!

Honestly, is it necessary? Or have we spawned a culture that has forgotten the struggles of our forefathers (or maybe that should be foremothers?) to HIDE the panty line???? I remember, back in the day, if you caught a glimpse of a lady’s underpants it was because her big, old granny panties were riding up and trying to escape her high waisted pants and SHE was considered a sad case. We all knew we didn’t want to see THAT! Well now, I fail to see how those big, old, escaping granny panties are any different from some chic with her thong popping out of the top of her jeans…both are just TMI!

On Sunday (at church, no less), I was assaulted – YES, assaulted, my retinas are still recovering – by the lady in front of me when she reached down to pick up something off the floor. Yep, there it was…her thong, in all its glory, coming out of her slacks and reaching about up to her shoulders. There was NO way I could avoid seeing it!!!! Now, she looked to be a fashionable sort, but this “Whale’s Tail” just destroyed the entire ensemble. Who wants the word whale (WHALES are big, y’all!) attached anywhere near any commentary on your tail, anyway???? Personally, my tail doesn’t need to be associating with a whale; it is big enough on its own!

So, y’all (boys and girls) hide your drawers….honestly, we don’t want to see them.

  1. This is funny! Very true by the way. Our culture is all about s#x. Undergarments are what people where in the bedroom so showing it means they are allegedly sexy.

  3. Oh my goodness! I totally agree! Underpants are for "under" your clothes :)
However if u know the person sometimes it is considerate to let them know they are hanging out...they may be unaware :)

  4. Preach on, girl! I totally agree with you. I am tired of seeing people's underwear (for me, this also includes bras and bra straps). As we are such an advanced nation, I am sure it is possible to find appropriate undergarmets that can do their job IN SECRET.

  5. Oh I don't get that either. It irks me, I really don't want to see and neither does anyone else. Just cover yourselves up

  6. Agreed, but I have the worst luck with my bra straps, they just naturally sit close to the nape of my neck, and they are always showing, so embarassing. Whale tails are new to me, and I will laugh because of you, each time I have a sighting.

  7. I couldn't agree more. I saw the same thing recently. Not at church thankfully. That would have made the offense even more offensive!!!

Your a creative girl so I expect to see you on American Idol next season with your own version of Pants On The Ground, as applied to thongs hanging out. :)

  8. I so agree! Actually, this is something that bothers Sean more than it bothers me LOL! He especially hates seeing the underwear of women at work. Bra straps are the ones I'm tired of seeing and it seems they've actually become accessories! What ever happened to strapless bras?? On second thought, whatever happened to shirts with straps wider than bra straps?? LOL!

  9. You and I are on the same page with what is now acceptable in society. Pop on over to my blog to see what I endured this weekend.

And since you mentioned it, I'm interested to know what you think about women wearing pants in church. I've considered doing a post regarding my opinion on this. Like to know what another Southern mama thinks.

  10. I agree!!!!

I tend to dress up for church b/c that's how I was raised, but I don't really care what other people wear. If wearing jeans will make them more comfortable to come into the doors of the church, then I think that's okay. BUT, at least show some common courtesy and dress with some decency and don't your your underpants. ;)

  13. Oh, goodness! I am giggling over the "whale tail" term- haven't heard that- too funny. If I ever get my blog going again, I want to rant about how people dress at my church. And I'm not talking dresses vs. pants but coming to church in sweatpants and gardening clothes. Really!
